Description

St. John's Pool.

A small protected pond with islands and a bird hide along side, is the perfect place to watch hundreds of nesting birds fledge their young.

Since it's development in 1989, the St. Johns Pool has become recognised as one of the premier sites in the north for migrating waters, wildfowl and scarcer migrants. It has also hosted several rare and previously unrecorded species for the county.

Up to the end of 2010 the total number of species and sub-species recorded on or around St. John's Loch stood at over 200.

St John's pool and The John Corbett Memorial Hide are situated on the north side of St John's Loch on the Brough to Dunnet Road. Access is free and open to the public all year round and there is car parking. The path to the hide is hidden from the view of the birds, so you don't disturb them getting there.

It is thanks to the efforts of Julian and Rosie Smith for providing this valuable facility.
